Who is the female pictured in profile on the Morgan Silver Dollar?
The female may be an artist’s rendering of an imaginary character meant to symbolize something profound like Liberty, or Justice, or Divine Providence. It may be Columbia, or some other lofty character. Or it may be a real woman who lived and whose image was captured and immortalized in this historic coin.
Someone said it was the “Statue of Liberty”…and I said I didn’t think so. Ergo I ask this question here if you know the answer. Who is this woman on the Morgan Silver Dollar?
It is “Lady Liberty”, aka “The Goddess of Liberty”. You’ll find her on other coins as well.
