if a company can monitor ALL computer usage, because its their equipment, etc…, can they also listen in on my phone conversations, both on and off the clock, because I am using “their” phones/equipment?
It largely depends on federal, state and local laws, as well as the companies stated policies about what they do or do not monitor.
Having said that: the rule of thumb that I apply is that if they’re paying for it – the computer, the fax machine, the telephone – then it’s better to go with the assumption that they might be monitoring it somehow. Even if you’re on a break.
