My daughter is 2 1/2 (3 in August) and I want to enroll her in ballet. I’ve never done ballet or anything so I want to know what I should do or expect. I started my son in gymnastics when he was 3 and it was hard for him because these other kids had been going since they were 18 months old. So we quit going and I said I’d start my other children earlier. But I haven’t found any dance classes that take kids under 3. There are some mommy and me classes for the under 3 crowd but I have other kids and can’t watch all of them while participating with my daughter. Anyone out there take ballet or put their kids in it? I just need some advice on where to start or what to look for in a studio. I live in Oregon which has one of the best ballet theaters but is that where I should start? Any information anyone can offer would be great!
I really think she should start at the beginning of next year when she is 3 years old. That extra few months can really make the difference. Most studios probably won’t accept her at that age and will require her to commence at the start of the year.
Get out your phonebook and visit all of the local dance studios in your area to make the best decision for you daughter. You should be looking for a clean studio, happy and friendly teachers and staff. The more professional dance studios will do competitions and do Ballet, Tap and Jazz exams.
